We’ve switched to WordPress

March 5, 2008 – 9:28 pm

Since I created this site about a year ago, it’s been running on a simple CMS that I built.  I finally took the plunge and converted to WordPress for a number of reasons.  The biggest two were so you could subscribe to our RSS feed if you wanted to stay updated, and so you could leave comments on items when you had something to say.

To help facilitate some comments, I’ve installed the “Top Commentators” plug-in.  This lists all of the top commentators in the sidebar on the right side of the site.  If you’re in that list and you’ve put a URL with your comments, it will automatically link your name to your site — it’s an easy way to get a nice backlink!

We hope that this new format makes the site easier to use.  If you have any story ideas that we’ve missed, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Thanks!

Mickey

  2. I suppose it’s obvious, but I should point out that this switch is the reason that all previous entries have a post date of March 5, 2008.

They were actually added to the site over the course of the last year, but were all imported into WordPress today.

  3. When I changed from blogger to Wordpress all my old blogger posts were imported and kept their dates from the old blog. Can’t remember it might have been a blogger specific import utility?

  4. I guess I could have manually adjusted the dates, but a lot of the entries on the old site didn’t even have dates — they were more like a bunch of static pages. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

  5. Wordpress is excellent in my opinion. Very easy to customize.

  6. i am a recent user of the internet. Have been Stumbling to see lots of different things. Word Press is actually usuable by a newby like myself. Like your site. It matches the old saying that the ’squeaky wheel gets greased’ rather nicely. Keeping things undercover only works with stealth. Good site. :)

  7. I recently switched to WP from MT also, mainly attracted by the better spam protection and driven away by continual rebuild errors when deleting comments. One bug in 1.5 that I can’t make go away is that it won’t display my categories alphabetically.

The way they always tell you to do this is to change the “list_cats” or “wp_list_cats” line in your sidebar.php in the theme directory, but I’ve tried this and it doesn’t work. I do hope they fix this in the next bug-fix release. (I’ve no idea why this affects some people and not others - others have said they have been able to get WP to do this.)
