King of Thailand

March 5, 2008 – 8:48 pm

King of ThailandA YouTube user created a video of the King of Thailand, Bhumibol Adulyadej, in which he was portrayed as a monkey.

The Thai government decided their best course of action would be to ban all of YouTube from the country.

The result was YouTube users everywhere creating more clips bashing the king, each of which received tens of thousands of views.

  2. By banning YouTube because of this they are only drawing added attention to it.

  3. The guy who made the video should have aired the video while he was in Thailand. After he was sentenced to 15 years in prison, the King would likely pardon him after a week. If you don’t revere the King of Thailand. STAY OUT OF THAILAND!

By peter on Dec 8, 2008

  4. Thailand’s lese majeste law can also be enforced in other countries. A Thai man living in the USA was recently accused of lese majeste by other Thai community members. The Thai police are now investigating this case.

So shouting “stay out of Thailand” is pointeless. How about abolishing this law instead. If Bhumibol Adulyadej is as “revered” as people say, why does he need this law anyway?

  7. The so-called “king” of Thailand is hated by many Thai people because in 1946 he killed his brother, Ananda Mahidol. Why? So that he could be king, of course.

It all happened in the private chambers of the royal palace while Ananda slept in his bed. Bhumibol sneeked in and blew his brother’s brains out.

    Messy business.

  10. The comment from 15yearsprison is purely base on bias. What did you do when you were 18 years old? You may fooling around somewhere. You may act like a nerd or you may had a happy sex with some black dude. I bet that everyone at that age wish to have a freedom life but his Majesty the King step to the throne during that age and he promise us he will not abandon Thai citizen. He will rules the country base on good moral practice. Until today, he still keep his word. He never force us to admire him but we do admire him because of his moral practice, his vision and his actions. I know this is pointless to share my commnet with you because your mind already embeded by your parents.

  13. I love king Bhumibol with all my heart and for the people who saying those terrible things ,I’d ask you to stop it.
Because of us, Thai people love our king.

There’re so many things that he has done for us. Especially the king’s multifarious duties such as Could seeding ( weather modification) which helping the famers from suffering of droughtiness. The thing he has done is worthy of our praise.

King Bhumibol had brought us peaceful and commonweal. If you are truely know our king ,you would definitely love him as we do.

Eventhough, Thailand is not one of not richest and powerful in the world , but we’ve been living happily under his shade for over 60 years and that’s why we called him ” father .”

To you all. I’m proud to be Thai, to be born in this land, to have the greatest king of all.

  14. @longlivetheking
I am Thai by blood and citizenship and completely understand why most Thai people think that way. However, I also understand how foreigners view our king… and why they do so without the excessive adoration the Thai abundantly exude ^^ All I will say to you is a “tiger has hidden claws.” And that “nice people always finish last”

Oh, and I have a book I would advise you (and every Thai) to read… (dont worry it’s not what you think at all ^^) It’s Machiavelli’s “The Prince” and it’s available, I believe, already translated in Thai at Chula U’s book center at Siam ^^ The book will help you understand why foreigners use the term “Machiavellian” to characterize his majesty.

    Oh and don’t worry… I’m not a red shirt or yellow shirt… I have no color ^^

  15. Thai people are brainwashed from a very early age to love the king. Eventhough most Thai people are very poor, their king is the richest monarch in the world, fact!!

The king supported the yellow shirt occupation of the airport just so he would be safe in power.. and now look at the country and economy, it’s ruinned.

If you say anything negative about the king, you go to jail!! That’s why they love the king, becasue nobody can even contemplate that he might be bad for the country.

The sooner he is dead the better. Then the Thai people will be free and the country will prosper and finally emerge from the dark ages.

By Bob Roberts on Dec 9, 2009

  16. Most Thai people are educated. We are smart to decide whether good or bad things. Our King is the best person in the world. He has done many beneficail things for Thai people. You, Bob Robert, knows little about him with misunderstanding about the real thing, so stop talking.

    By 100 Thais on Dec 9, 2009

  17. @100Thais

Uhh… Bob is right about several thing: Firstly, his majesty IS the richest monarch in the world: FACT! The record used to be held by Brunei’s Sultan (an oil-producing country!) but our king has surpassed him… how? (one can only speculate…) And we all know Thailand is not exactly rich…

From what I hear about the airport occupation, which almost prevented me from visiting my family over Christmas, a certain someone very, very close to the king… (I dont wanna say who) was the one behind it… so Bob wasn’t that much off the mark either…

Of course, say anything bad about the king, you go to jail. That one is obvious…

Now this is where Bob is wrong:
Thai people don’t love the king out of fear… they love him with frightening levels of adoration ^^

In my opinion, Thai people should have more open minds… There’s a saying that goes “Listen to the words of your enemies well, as they are most likely to be true” If we Thai people refuse look at multiple perspectives of an issue, our country would get to nowhere. People who have not been raised in Thailand under the Thai educational system are more likely to be objective and free from bias, whether good or bad, when viewing the issue. Now, some foreigners dont exactly LOVE our king… such as this one http://www.wetwired.org/2009/03/13/this-post-would-get-me-arrested-in-thailand/
This is a pretty extreme example…

As for myself… I believe that constant dialogue on the role of the monarchy is necessary for the betterment of our country… and sometimes the lese majeste laws of Thailand prevent that. I believe we need to open up and talk more.

Oh, and please read “The Prince”… it’s a classic that’s taught in many, many college world literature courses. ^^

By noturaveragethai on Dec 10, 2009

  18. Oh, and 100Thais, I would not say that most Thai are educated… the truth is, we aren’t. Not at all compared to other developed countries. Most of the laborers who come from rural areas to work in Bangkok don’t even know long division O_o… or English… or how to write a lot of Thai words…

Just arguing that “foreigners cannot understand us” won’t make your case one bit convincing… you need to get to the specifics.

By noturaveragethai on Dec 10, 2009

  19. To every one. Please come to Thailand and ask 100 Thai people. And you will know the truth by your eye and ear. And judge by your heart. For me. This king is the best king of this world. Period.

By Vega on Dec 12, 2009

  20. Since we are the developing country..
we know that most of the thing in Thailand cannot beat all you guys (especially western)

but I am sure that you have no good king
like we have, just searh on the internet
what he has done in his life time.
well, you know what…this is just the only one thing that all your money cant buy…
and you knew it …so this is the reason that why you have a reaction like this…

BECUZ THIS IS THE ONLY ONE THING THAT YOU CANNOT BEAT US
AND YOU WILL NOT ..ADMIT IT :)

  21. I’m a Thai people that had believed Thai people has a good king and Thai life is good too. But now, I have changed my mind because of many reasons that make me doubt Thai social. Most of Thai people are very poor and uneducated, but in high society, people is very very rich, Army’s salary rate is very low but most of Thai Generals is very very rich and our king is the richest king of kings in the world. Why all of this happen?

Thai people have been brain washed when young until death by all form of medias and social that tell about Thai king is like a god, he is holy, he is untouchable, he is the man who is doing the most help of poor Thai people but the truth is most of Thai people stuck with poor, uneducated, high crime rate, sex violation, drugs, corruptions, human right problems, etc.

31 years of my life, I have no hope for this country state but I wish there is a hero who can help Thailand and Thai people come off this struggle.

  22. To everyone the negative thoughts with the Thai king,Based on what you do. Read or listen to somebody else. If someone write in a bad way to your father, you will believe him or not. Father and you see every day.King worked hard to Thai people. Without anything to share. Never oppress the people. Never punching people. But in contrast,He provides us all the time With good teaching. On property of the king has long been by history. And do not have all increased. King of Thailand is an example of democracy, taking the power to the people. Please stop attacks on our king, if you are Thai.

    By ChaNaChai_Thailand on Feb 5, 2010

  23. To ChaNaChai_Thailand

I’m not attack him. I only tell the truth. Why most of Thai people is very poor when king is very rich? When you can answers this question by reason, you will know the truth behind him.

Another doubt is about PAD(Yellow shirt terrorist) member girl die by a bomb. Queen appeared in her cremation. You know that it’s not normal that royal family join in commoner’s rite. Behind of chaos may be came from them. Royal family may not be the total problem, but they role behind problem of Thailand.

You know that king is great countless times from TV, isn’t it? Have you ever got any really benefit from royal family’s activity(not from TV advertisement)?

I’m not wish to change your thought because I’m Thai people from birth and I was one who love King like you. I know that how bad feel when someone told bad to him. However, please open your mind to think by reason of current situation of Thailand. Listen to people that had opinions on him. I’m sure most of them don’t hate or want to overthrow their throne.

By BookWorm on Feb 5, 2010

  24. To BookWorm
Your question, “Why most of Thai people is very poor when king is very rich?” This conclusion, King does not manage the country. King, not political. King let people manage people. Why are people poor, Is because the politicians corruption put personal interest. I agree with much poor, It has not been graduated from the Government. How will developing countries? Can you tell me about this solution? Please you tell me about details richness of the king and the source of the property.

    By ChaNaChai_Thailand on Feb 6, 2010

  25. Oh dear, please think on realilty. King is really link to Thai politics. He has power to direct this country. He must image himself as free from polical because king or individual person has power over country is not welcome in the international. Don’t tell that he is free from politics like you know from TV.

Thai people is very poor because it’s easier to manage people when they have less power. King and his family is very rich because he manage to get power for himself, is that nature of human? He’s not a god.

For source or report of his property, Don’t play like a dump yourself, use google search for “Thai king richest in the world”.

Whatever, you like to be like a semi slave life and you’re happy, it’s ok. But you see current situation of Thailand when people have less power than governer (again King is all of director but have major influence) Thai people will have right to decide their right. Royal – High society always get advantage above people. If they helped people from poverty, I would not blame them.

Human is human. There isn’t any change in our history. We gain power by destroy the other. Same as you, me and his highness.

    Thanks for any comments.

However, I also love the Thai king.
